The LED then emits UV-C photons that penetrate the cells and damage the nucleic acid in the microorganism DNA.<\/p><p>As these cells cannot replicate, it renders the harmful microorganism inactive. As a result, UV-C LEDs can be used to inactivate pathogens. The inactivation level is determined by a number of parameters, including: retention time (flowrate), fluid characteristics (UV Transmittance), UV intensity level, and pathogen inactivation kinetics. The UV range can be further divided into UV-A, UV-B, UV-C, and Vacuum-UV.
